Gran Canaria - Puerto de Mogan

My personal top 3 of highlights in the Northeastern Region of Brazil :
1/ The historical centre Pelourinho
the historical centre (“Pelourinho”) of Salvador da Bahia, capital of the state Bahia
I recommend the restaurant Tempero da Dada (Afro-Brazilian specialities) and Hotel Convento do Carmo, in the very heart of the Pelourinho
Not to miss is the free performance of Afro-Brazilian percussion band “Olodum” on Sunday nights at Ladeira do Pelô, respresenting Brazilian hapiness at its best
2/ Galo da Madrugada
Recife’s Galo da Madrugada is a large-scaled folk carnival which takes place at Sunday during the carnival week. With a number of participant between 1,5 and 2 million, the “Galo” can be proud of being the largest folk carnival in the world.
In the historical centre of Olinda, at only 6 km also marked as Unesco World Heritage, various performances of folclore can be assisted during the whole period of carnival.
I recommend Hotel das Sete Colinas in Olinda due to its superb setting, only a few steps away from its historical centre.
3/ the National Park of Chapada Diamantina
the National Park of “Chapada Diamantina”, a green oasis in the heart of Bahia, can be considered as the highlight of natural treasures of the Northeast.
When participating the guided walking tours along the non-paved “trilhas” you will discover magnificent landscapes formed by cloudy forests, table mountains, waterfalls and so on.
I recommend a climb on the “Morro do Pai Inacio” (the highest table mountain) to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Southern Americas. Make also the 3-days trekking to the foot of the Cachoeira da Fumaça, which is with its 436 m the highest in Brazil,
Be ware ... snakes ans huge spiders are abundant in this lush garden of eden.

Korte vliegvakantie naar Mallorca - Camp de Mar
In September 2007 naar Camp de Mar op Mallorca geweest.
Camp de Mar is een kleine, rustige badplaats aan de zuidwestkust van het eiland, gelegen in een baai omgeven door heuvels begroeid met pijnbomen. De baai wordt afgebakend door steil uit zee oprijzende rotsen. De hoofdstad en de luchthaven bevinden zich op iets meer dan 30 km.
Camp de Mar heeft niet echt een centrum. Er is een concentratie van een enkele winkeltjes, waaronder ook een kleine supermarkt, rond de 2 grote hotels aan de strandpromenade (Riu en Playa Hotel).
Er is een promenade langsheen het hele strand waarvan het hoofdstrand afgezet is met gezellige restaurants en terrasjes.
Aan de rand van Camp de Mar is een golfterrein waar zich het derde grote hotel van Camp de Mar bevindt (Dorint Golf).
Er zijn geen uitgaansmogelijkheden, tenzij een romantisch dineetje of een terrasje doen.
Het strand is zacht aflopend en het water varieert van turquoise tot groen. Daar waar het water 2 meter diep is kan men nog gemakkelijk de bodem zien. Er zijn goede snorkelmogelijkheden, al is de variatie aan vissoorten eerder beperkt.
September biedt nog mooi weer met temperaturen die gemakkelijk de 30° halen.
Wij huurden een wagen waardoor we heel wat mooie plaatsen konden ontdekken.
Een absolute aanrader is het bergachtige westen van het eiland (Serra de Tramuntana) met prachtige landschappen, een ruige kust met indrukwekkende uitzichten en gezellige bergdorpjes.
De oostkust van het eiland is bezaaid met cala's (kreekjes) met prachtige stranden. Niets voor de rustzoeker want hier is het echter koppen lopen.
Wij verbleven in het Riu Hotel. Een gezellig hotel met een goede keuken en een vriendelijke service, al zou hier en daar zou een likje verf geen overbodige luxe zijn.
Deze korte vakantie is voor herhaling vatbaar.

Short adventure holiday in Finland
In the winter of 2007 i made a wonderful trip to the Finnish holiday resort Rovaniemi - right on the Polar Circle.
Our adventure was a combination from langlauf skiing, rendier and dog sledging, skidoo , icebreaker adventure, ice fishing etc.
