Mont Ventoux - Provence - France

October 19, 2007 - Permalink - No comments

While in 2007 in the Provence in France we climbed the Mont Ventoux by car !

What a pleasure to see the sweating cyclers trying to beat their personal records.
We went up the steep side and came back the less steeper site.
We started in Bédouin and returned to Sault.

It took us several hours to climb the desertlike mountain. Not because our car could not make it faster, but we liked to look at the continuing chain of cyclers trying to overcome their fysical limits.

The mountain itself is very special and very beautiful. The upper part of the mountain has no trees, stunning breathtaking views of the plains and the Alps.
One of the main attractions is the summit. Every cycler is trying to get there and is pushing their fysical strenght to the limit.

A short distance from the summit one has certainly to stop for the Memorial monument of Tom Simpson, an english cycler who died after an overdose of doping.

The car is far less fatigueing!
